Allen Haines – Owner, CEO
Thanks to the players and coaches who have participated in the program since its founding in 1999, the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox has established itself as one of the elite showcase teams in the nation. Serving as Owner and CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox, Allen Haines takes great pride in providing opportunities and assisting young men in fulfilling their academic and athletic goals of becoming student-athletes on the collegiate level.
Haines has been instrumental in helping to place over 600 high school seniors into college to play baseball. Red Sox alumni have been selected 60 times in the MLB Draft, while 11 other players have signed as free agents to play professional baseball. 4 Red Sox alumni have been selected to play for USA National Teams.
Coach Haines has two sons that were very successful college baseball players. Jeff was a middle infielder at Liberty University (VA) and Eric was a catcher at Eastern Nazarene College (MA). “Helping families and getting answers to the same questions I had going through the recruiting process is the give-back to the good fortune I experienced as a parent,” Haines said.
Haines has coaching experience on every level including nationally-ranked collegiate teams. He is a retired physical education teacher from the Washington County, MD school system. Haines resides in Frederick, MD with his wife Nancy.
Eric Haines – President
Eric Haines was a player on the first roster in 1999. Haines has been with the Red Sox as an assistant coach (2004-2006), head coach (2009-2012), and continues on the Red Sox staff assisting with baseball operations, scouting, and player development.
Haines was an Assistant Coach at Mount St. Mary’s University from 2006-2009. Haines was the Mount’s first base coach and catching coach. Haines helped lead the Mount to a Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season title and school record for wins in 2007 (35). In 2008, Haines and the Mount won an NEC Championship and made the school’s first NCAA Regional appearance. In his three years, Coach Haines was able to coach an NEC Rookie of the Year, an NEC Pitcher of the Year, and an NEC Player of the Year. During Haines’ tenure, the Mount had three players named All-Americans, and seven players go on to professional baseball.
A four-year starter at Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts, Haines has been coaching since graduation. Prior to his time at the Mount, Haines was an assistant coach at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, Maryland.
As a player, Haines was a three-time captain at Eastern Nazarene, earning First Team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors as a catcher as a senior. He was named a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star and the ECAC Barrett Robbins Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2004. He finished his career with a .333 average and set the Eastern Nazarene single-season record for RBI’s in 2004. He is in the top five in Eastern Nazarene history in batting average, hits and RBI’s.
A graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, Haines is the Project Manager for Personalized Learning for Frederick County Public Schools. He resides in Middletown, MD, with his wife Laurie and two children.
T.J. Hose – Head Coach – 17U – Pitching Coordinator
T.J. Hose is an alum of the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox program and has returned as a coach. T.J. is also an associate scout with the San Diego Padres. T.J. was a four year letter winner at North Hagerstown High School from 2001-2004 in Hagerstown, MD. He signed a National Letter of Intent to East Carolina University where he lettered four years. During his tenure at ECU he was selected for the Freshman All Conference USA team. He also was a two-time Second Team All-Conference USA selection, two-time All Conference USA Conference Pitcher of the Week, two-time College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll recipient, and named the Collegebaseballinsider.com Regional Player-of-the-Week. T.J. played in the prestigious Cape Cod League where he was selected to the 2007 Under Armour All-Star game. In 2008, Hose was named to the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch list. After ECU, Hose was selected in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft in the 36th round to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played three years in the D-backs organization. During the 2009 season, he was named a Midwest League All-Star. After the 2009 season, T.J. was named the Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year by MLB.com. Hose also spent time in the Boston Red Sox organization. After the 2014 season, Hose was an Atlantic League All-Star. Over his seven year professional career, Hose compiled a 16-28 career record with 23 Saves and a 3.64 ERA over 360.2 innings pitched with a 323 K to 143 BB in 241 games.

Keith Gordon – Head Coach – 16U
Coach Gordon graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD and was Maryland athlete of the year in 1987 while being featured in a Sports Illustrated “Faces In the Crowd” segment. He played collegiately Wright State and Arizona State University. Keith was drafted out of high school in the 5th round by the San Francisco Giants in the 1987 but decided to forego professional baseball for college. He was then the 28th player chosen in the 1990 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. Keith played professionally for 3 seasons, including time with the Cincinnati Reds, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Seattle Mariners. Coach Gordon currently offers hitting lessons and heads the baseball program at the Bullis School in Potomac, MD.
Christian Binford – Assistant Coach – 16U
Christian Binford is an alum of the Mid Atlantic Red Sox program and is now back with the organization as a coach. Christian was drafted out of Mercersburg Academy (PA) in the 30th round by the Kansas City Royals in 2011, foregoing a scholarship to the University of Virginia. With the Royals, Christian played at every level over 7 Years, making the Low A All Star Team, High A All Star team, pitching in the 2014 Sirius XM Future’s Game and winning the 2014 AAA National Championship with the Omaha Storm Chasers. After the Royals, Christian signed with the Baltimore Orioles where he played with the AA Bowie Baysox and was traded to the Tigers within the same season. 2019 was Christian’s final season with the Kansas City T-Bones in the Independent Atlantic League.
Christian currently lives between Hagerstown, MD and Ashburn, VA, and has a strong passion for coaching players to become quality pitchers and helping each reach their ceiling.
Farron Riggs – Head Coach – 15U
Coach Riggs played at Francis Marion University (SC) for 2 years (1986-88) where he helped the Patriots capture a district and a regional title. He transferred to NC State University for his junior year, playing under coach Ray Tanner. Coach Riggs is currently the varsity baseball coach at Rockville High School, where he has been leading the program for the past 20 years.
